Rehabilitation Assistant, Witham, Essex

An exciting opportunity for a Rehabilitation Assistant to take on a newly identified role with our Client, an 11 year old boy based in Witham, Essex. If you have experience of working with clients with neurological difficulties and would like to be part of the specialist team enabling this young man to develop and grow his independence and confidence, this role would be perfect for you.

The Client

Daniel is an engaging and active young man who lives at home with his parents and younger sibling. Daniel’s family have provided all of his care and support to date, with the help of the specialist team of therapists who devise and implement Daniel’s therapy programmes helping him to live life to the full.

Daniel requires support with areas of his day-to-day life as a result of mild cerebral palsy and impairments to his motor skills which can compromise his movement, balance and coordination. From time to time he may also experience social struggles, fatigue and leg pain however he doesn’t let this stop him!

Hobbies & Interests

Daniel loves sport, particularly rugby, football, swimming and gym sessions. He also loves the usual interests of a boy his age, for example gaming and watching cartoons. Daniel thrives in the company of upbeat, happy people and his Rehabilitation Assistant will need to actively engage in all activities and hobbies with Daniel, both within the home and in the local and wider community.

The Role

The role of Rehabilitation Assistant with Daniel is a great opportunity for someone with prior experience of working with clients with neurological difficulties or brain injury to work alongside the team of expert therapists with the ongoing input of Daniel’s parents. The successful candidate will need to liaise closely with all of those involved with Daniel’s care plan and communicate easily and readily with his parents to maintain their ongoing involvement in their son’s care. The role will include the need to encourage and support Daniel in his daily therapy programme ensuring his exercises are undertaken and completed.

The successful candidate will need to work with Daniel to develop some independence away from his immediate family and grow in confidence. As Daniel can sometimes struggle in social situations, his Assistant will need to advise and guide him in his developing social and language skills to help him interact with his peers and will also need to be an advocate for his wellbeing if required.

Candidates should be confident, active and sociable, willing to identify and organise age appropriate  outings and activities within the local community. You should be able to offer the flexibility to attend outings outside of your normal hours of work from time to time which may include trips away.
