Care & Support Team Manager – Sunderland
An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Care & Support Team Manager to join this established and professional care team providing 24 hour support to our Client.
The Client
Angela is a mature lady who sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of an accident over 20 years ago. Despite this Angela lives independently with the support of her care team who help her to manage her money, plan her days and make informed decisions in her day-to-day life.
Angela lives an active and social life, interacting fully with her support team and regularly sees her family and friends. She is an engaging and interesting lady who thrives in the company of positive and inspiring individuals.
As a result of her injury, Angela requires support with personal care and although independently mobile with the aid of a walking frame, tends to use a wheelchair for long distances and when out and about. Angela requires support with transfers, particular when tired, with medication and in the running of her home including meal preparation.
Interests/Hobbies
Angela has a weekly routine which includes implementing the therapy programme devised specifically for her by her physiotherapist and she has a gym membership where she will soon be able to carry out her new strengthening routine.
Angela likes to go out for meals, to the shops and other outings in the local community and when at home, likes to watch quiz shows, films and soap operas on the television. She likes to keep up to date with current affairs and enjoys crosswords and using her iPad. Angela likes to plan and prepare her meals and manage her diary and finances, although she requires some support in these areas.
The Role
The role of Care & Support Team Manager is fundamental in the running of the directly employed care team comprising eight permanent members of staff providing 1:1 care to Angela 24 hours a day. It is expected that the successful candidate will have experience of a Team Leader or Team Manager role, leading a team of this size. You should be a calm, professional and inspiring leader whose primary focus will be on the safety and wellbeing of Angela, whilst ensuring that the care team are supported to enable them to provide high quality care her.
Management of the care team will include the recruitment and training of all staff, holding probationary review meetings and regular supervisions, ensure training is up-to-date, as well as the accurate maintenance of all documentation relating to care planning. You will also be required to maintain appropriate levels of medication and liaise with other medical and clinical professionals to support Angela’s health, wellbeing and rehabilitation.
You should be able to work closely with Angela’s family as well as her Case Manager, Deputy, medical, social and therapeutic team to ensure a collaborative and cohesive provision. This should be continually under review to ensure that appropriate activities and therapies are identified to enhance and enable Angela’s quality of life.
Rates of Pay
We are offering a competitive salary of £39,600 – £42,000 per annum, depending on experience for this position.
Hours of Work
The Care Team Manager role is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis, Monday to Sunday. Whilst the working hours will primarily fall within the day shift hours of 08:00 and 20:00 daily, there may be occasions when you are required to provide overnight support.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to offer flexibility to ensure that they work alongside all members of the care team from time to time, to maintain accessibility and professional relationships, as well as to ensure that care standards are maintained.
Person Specification
Candidates should ideally have demonstrable leadership skills and previous experience of
leading or managing a care team. In addition, candidates should match the following criteria:
- Hold or be working towards NVQ Level 4, a Registered Manager qualification or similar;
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with clients with a brain injury or neurological condition, or with vulnerable people;
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with clear verbal and written communication skills including report writing and be IT literate;
- Competent in care planning, activity planning, risk assessing and management.
- Have knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation;
- Be familiar and comfortable working within CQC regulations;
- Identify activities and outings by creatively considering new and alternatively places or experiences for Angela to enjoy;
- Able to work on own initiative, be organised, reliable and punctual;
- Proficient in maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality within the workplace, with the understanding and sensitivities required when working within a private home;
- Have a qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent;
- Hold a full, clean, UK driving licence and own vehicle.
