Rehabilitation Support Worker, Basingstoke

Are you experienced in working with Clients with brain injury, enabling them to live a full and active life? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

The Client

Mark is a friendly, cool and happy-go-lucky young man with a mischievous streak. He lives independently with the support of his Rehabilitation Support Workers and his cat.

As a result of a brain injury sustained about 5 years ago, Mark requires support with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, cat care and his general life admin. Whilst Mark is independently mobile and does not need support with personal care, he encounters certain challenges as a result of his injury, most notably fatigue, maintaining appropriate social boundaries, impulse behaviours and other difficulties often associated with a brain injury.
Although Mark speaks clearly, he does have particular trouble with his comprehension and understanding of what has been said, which means that a clear and literal approach, delivered sensitively, can be of benefit.

Mark has regular contact and support from his family who live nearby and he has an experienced professional support team involved with his rehabilitative care including his MDT, Team Leader and Case Manager.

Interests & Hobbies
Mark is a mechanics volunteer at a local college during term time which he enjoys and finds very satisfying. His leisure time is spent with friends or out and about in the local community with his favourite activities being skating, bouldering/rock climbing and go-karting although any adrenaline provoking activity would be of interest to him!

Other interests are going to the gym, music (both listening to it at home and going to concerts and gigs) as well as gaming.

The Role

We are looking for someone who has experience of working with someone with a brain injury to provide guidance and support to Mark to encourage and enable him to live a full, happy and fulfilling life whilst helping him to make the right choices and decisions and to behave appropriately.

Working on a one-to-one basis with our Client, it is important to maintain professional boundaries as you support Mark’s independence. You will be required to liaise and work with the Client’s team of therapists and specialists facilitating his rehabilitation targets and goals. Full training will be given and the successful candidate will be managed by a hugely knowledgeable, pro-active and friend Team Leader with further support from the Client’s case management team.

Rates of Pay

Day Shift (08:00 – 22:00)
Monday to Sunday: £17.00 per hour
Sleeping Night Shift (22:00 – 08:00)
Monday to Sunday: £11.00 per hour
We are also recruiting to a bank role with our Client.

Hours of Work

We are looking for Rehabilitation Support Workers to join the team, across the week (Monday to Sunday) but specifically able to work on a Saturday or Sunday regularly.

The shifts are 22 hours in length, with two shifts available per week, from 10:00 one day through to 08:00 the following. One of these days will be a Saturday each week with the other to be worked in line with the rota which is issued in advance.

Person Specification

This position would suit an active and positive individual who is happy to get fully involved in our Client’s hobbies and interests, and who can demonstrate an open-minded, resilient and tenacious nature, with a great sense of humour and fun. You will need to be creative in your ideas of things to do and places to visit with Mark, particularly during non-term time when Mark can become bored.

Although not essential, it would be helpful if candidates are car owners/drivers so that they can easily provide transport to our Client, however this is not an essential requirement of the role.

If you feel you are the right person for this role, please provide your CV in the first instance.
